Users of the decentralized exchange (DEX) PancakeSwap are reporting on social media a phishing scam involving the platform and its token, CAKE.
CriptoFácil had access to the email being sent to users with the promise of sending free tokens from the platform to anyone who makes a request.
More precisely, the scammers claim it is a CAKE airdrop that promises 400 tokens.
With the current price of the crypto at US $ 27.09 (R $ 148), the total amount promised would be approximately US $ 10,835. In other words, about R $ 60,000, quoted in reais.
“PancakeSwap is announcing a CAKE airdrop on our exchange! You will receive 400 CAKE on the spot. But you need to act fast. Offer ends April 31! To claim 400 CAKES immediately, link a wallet following the link below ”, says the message sent by email.
Phishing scam
As you can imagine, the scammers’ goal is not to distribute thousands of dollars to users. In fact, it is a scam aimed at draining funds from the victims’ cryptocurrency wallets.
This is because to make the supposed request for the tokens, it is necessary to connect the security keys that give access to the wallet.
Then, the victim is directed to a misleading website, which passes for the official website.
As you can see, there is a typo on the fake site: https://exchange.pankaceswap.finance/. The real website of the decentralized platform is: https://pancakeswap.finance/.
On Twitter, many users reported receiving the fraudulent email. One of them even said that the wallets are not allowing the platform to be used due to the phishing alert.
However, to date, the official profile of PancakeSwap has yet to comment on the case.
Recent case of scam with PancakeSwap
This is not the first case that scammers try to steal PancakeSwap users. In mid-March, as CriptoFácil reported, the platform suffered an attack on its DNS.
At the time, attackers had access to the site’s DNS system to include malicious elements in their interfaces.
Then, users were directed to another website that requested keywords from users’ portfolios.
